Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)
NLP is an alternative approach to psychotherapy based
on the subjective study of language, communication and
personal development.
NLP was initially created by Richard Bandler
and John Grinder in 1975. Their goal was
to discover why certain people produce excellence and
then to create models to allow other people to behave
similarly.
Out of these models, a host of techniques have been developed
that rapidly and effectively change the thoughts,
behaviours and beliefs that were previously limiting
the personal development of the individual.
This collection of techniques is commonly
known as Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). It is important
to realise that NLP is a set of guiding principles, attitudes
and techniques about behaviour in real life. It is not
a scientific theorem.
NLP explores how we think (neuro),
how we communicate both verbally and non-verbally (linguistic)
and how we behave and feel
(programmes).
NLP gives individuals increased choice by
understanding how the mind works; to choose behaviour,
emotional states and physical states of well-being.
It seeks to remove self-imposed limits.
Essentially, NLP
is how to use the language of the mind to consistently
achieve specific and desired outcomes.
